What Is Castel Mimi?
Castel Mimi is a historic wine estate and resort in Bulboaca, about 40 kilometers (roughly 45 minutes) from Chisinau . It was founded in 1893 by Constantin Mimi, a dedicated winemaker and promoter of Bessarabian wines who later served as director of the National Bank of Romania .
For decades, the castle fell into disrepair. The Trofim family — now in its fifth generation of winemaking — restored it into what it is today: a working winery, a fine-dining destination, a hotel, and one of Moldova’s most important tourist attractions. In 2023, it hosted the European Political Community Summit .

In 2024, The Governor Feteasca Neagra 2019 won the Big Gold Medal and “Best of Show Moldova Red” at the Mundus Vini competition in Germany — the first time a Moldovan wine achieved this honor. Other gold medals followed at Berliner Wine Trophy and Concours Mondial de Bruxelles .

3. Taxi / Rideshare
A taxi takes about 45 minutes. One traveler reported paying 825 lei for the outbound trip, but the winery staff arranged a return taxi for only 325 lei. Always confirm the price before getting in, or ask the winery to arrange transport .
4. Self-Drive
Take the R2 national road from Chisinau toward Bulboaca. Address: Strada Dacia 1, Bulboaca. Distance: about 40 km, 45 minutes. This gives you the most flexibility to combine Castel Mimi with other stops like Orheiul Vechi .
