Know before you go
Day 1: Having been picked up from the airport and welcomed to the winelands of Moldova you will be taken to your hotel, the 4* City Park hotel, where you will get ready for a relaxing experience full of great wines, people and nature.
Day 2: The tour will begin with a visit to, and exploration of the Milestii Mici Winery where you will descend to 80m below sea level either by bus or car into the largest network of underground wine caves ever dug by man. Measuring roughly 200km and holding an impressive collection of more than 2 million bottles, these caves have made it into the Guinness Book of Records. On admiring the flames of the fireplace, tasting 20-30 years old wines, and enjoying national cuisine you will certainly see why.
The next stop on the tour will be at Poiana Winery in the heart of Moldova’s biggest forest to try out some great wines. With its strong emphasis on harnessing and preserving the unique natural resources of the secular area in which it is located, the vines are cultivated like they were in the old times, preserving millenary traditions, and without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The valley of the winery is called the “Buddha Valley” and is an attraction for yoga practitioners and it is here that you will enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch by the lake.
The afternoon is your time to explore the hidden paths of Chisinau on your own.
Day 3: Venturing to the south of Moldova, day three will be a full day of wine and outdoor activities.
The first stop of the day will be at the small family-owned winery – Et Cetera. Here they believe that love and care is the key to a family’s well-being and for more than a decade, three generations of the Luchianov family have taken care of the land, which has paid them back with great harvests due to their careful handling of each winemaking process from growing eco grapes, fermentation and ageing in oak barrels, right up to serving the products to guests at the restaurant of their winery. On entering the winery, you will be greeted by the winemaker who will guide you through a wine tasting, and his mother who will teach you how to make local pastry during a masterclass. Here there is no rush, it is just you, the wines and nature. You will enjoy your lunch in a relaxing atmosphere with great wines in the heart of the vineyards.
Having had a relaxing morning, the pace will pick up slightly with either an opportunity to cycle or hike your way through the vineyards to get to the Purcari Cellars founded in 1827. Nestled in the countryside between the Dniester River and the Black Sea, the estate, built in the style of a French chateau, oozes an atmosphere of calm and luxury, and it is here you will discover the innermost secrets of the creation of the legendary Purcari wines, and how for a long time, they were as popular as Bordeaux or Burgundy wines having been served to Emperor Nicholas II as well as King George V, and Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
Day 4: On the last day, you will be taken to ATU winery, the first urban winery in Moldova. Here you will be greeted by the winemaker and enjoy an express wine and chocolate tasting before being taken to the airport to catch your flight.
Alternatively if you have decided to stay on independently you will be taken to your accommodation.
