Friendly guide with best knowledge about Jewish Heritage.
Wanna say thanks for a guide, who was with us, very interesting , friendly.
This cemetery contains many thousands of graves – it is thought to be the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe – and much of it is in a state of disrepair, reflecting both official neglect and the hugely diminished size of Moldova’s Jewish population.
But it is also a fascinating window on to the history of Moldova and its people. We were lucky enough to meet some people – a mixture of those who had stayed in Chisinau and those who had emigrated – who told us their views, in English, about the cemetery and its history, but even if we had not it would still have been a hot summer’s day well spent in both the shade and the sun.
