Chisinau is the beating heart of the Republic of Moldova. Razed to the ground during WWII the city was rebuilt afterwards by the Russians which explains the very Soviet looking buildings and the Stalinist architecture on its main boulevards. In between you can get a glimpse of some pre-WWII edifices, or try some of the hip cafes, bars and restaurants or the famous local wine in any of the dozen wineries around the city, or go for some antique shopping in Arbat.
